Performance

The Indian utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra is a renowned manufacturer of diesel as well as petrol engines. Mahindra blessed the Scorpio with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection) fuel supply system present in the engine with 4 valves per cylinder improves fuel efficiency. The 5 Speed Manual Transmission Gearbox in the engine offers very smooth shifting of gear and delivers greater mileage also. Only one variant of Mahindra Scorpio is packed with Automatic Transmission Gearbox. This mighty engine churns out a maximum power output of 140bhp at 3750rpm and a peak torque of 330Nm at 1600-2800rpm. The engine perfroms well, but there is a slight lag at the low RPMs. The other big drawback is the mileage the SUV returns a moderate mileage in the range of 10.3 kmpl to 14.8 kmpl.

Comfort

The seats use the same frames as before, but have been reworked in terms of cushioning and rigidity. This means that longer drives will now result in less fatigue - for driver and passengers, I reckon. A big USP for me is the way the interior has been reworked. This is miles away from typical Mahindra territory, and I am so glad it is. The trim is finished in a colour palette of light pleasing greys and blue. It is refreshing not to see beige - in fact the cool hue is also refreshing on a hot summer day! I was told that the entire range uses a similar palette though the feature list is most generous on the S10 of course. On the top-end, there is a touch screen infotainment and navigation system borrowed from the XUV 5OO, but its interface is redone in blue and violet tones that look nicer. It also seems to have been tweaked and so responds to touch better.

Features

All variants of the Mahindra Scorpio SUV are pretty much feature-laden and full of the expected technical specs. Scorpio Diesel engine specification include an engine of 2179cc, which musters up a torque measuring to 320Nm@1500-2800rpm and maximum power of 140bhp@3750rpm. Scorpio top model coughs out an average or giving an overall mileage of around 8.2 kmpl, with a fuel efficiency within a city of 0.0 kmpl and on highways the mileage stands out as 16.36 kmpl. While the basic silhouette remains same, Mahindra has made extensive changes to the styling of the current generation Scorpio. The model was introduced in an all-new avatar in 2014 and received modern touches including the new LED daytime running lights (DRLs), while the grille is more upright and looks bolder than ever.

WHAT'S INSIDE

The SUV is extremely relevant to the current market situations and made to give a tough competition to its competitions. The key highlight of the Mahindra Scorpio interior is that it is given bench seat for the third row as well, along with a centre armrest. The seats are wrapped in faux leather upholstery, making the car cabin a better place than most of the cars with fabric upholstery. The front dash section imparts pretty much of attractions as well. The centrally mounted 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system gets GPS satellite navigation. Barring the touch screen unit, the other systems on the dash get analogue dials along with a digital clock. The settings on the centre console are clean with good quality knobs and button bits. The top-end spec also gets automatic climate control along with a heater. There are two 12V power outlets as well.he Mahindra Scorpio offers a very impressive mileage which is one of the bests in the segment. With a fuel metre reading as 15.4 kmpl (ARAI certified), the SUV is definitely one of the most fuel-efficient big-sized SUVs in the market. The mileage figure is very much at par with the Mahindra Bolero, its own sibling.

SAFE AND INSIDE

The Mahindra Scorpio is pretty healthy in terms of braking and safety, except the base model. The top-end Mahindra Scorpio car has dual safety airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system and seat belt warning. ABS, along with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) is also given in the top model. However, child safety lock and vehicle immobilizer are added as standard across all the variants.>
